Enhancing cybersecurity:The Gen AI opportunity
As the generative AI (Gen AI) revolution gathers pace in every sector, cybersecurity leaders are exploring how this rapidly evolving technology can help them improve their security posture. In fact, 91% of security executives and professionals say they already use generative AI – and 46% say it will be game-changing for their security teams.
In the current cybersecurity landscape, identifying defensive applications for Gen AI is essential. After all, bad actors are already harnessing it to help increase the volume and sophistication of their attacks by, for example, generating and translating more plausible phishing emails at scale.
Meanwhile, security leaders have insufficient resources to protect constantly expanding attack surfaces from relentless, AI-fueled attacks. It’s a vicious circle, as overstretched security staff are asked to do even more, leading to burnout and increasing numbers of vacancies that are becoming harder to fill. In a survey[GE6] [VK7] , 71% of security professionals said their organization has been affected by the cybersecurity skills shortage, with 61% saying it’s led to increasing workloads and 43% saying it’s led to high burnout among staff.
