Unified efforts trumps isolated pursuits
The formation of new strategic partnerships was a recurring theme during this year’s MWC. Players are joining forces to foster technological innovation and enable market expansion. The announcements during MWC24 reflect the industry’s forward-thinking approach, focusing on enhancing digital infrastructure, user experience and sustainable growth.
Multiple AI partnerships and agreements were announced at MWC24. Many industry players see the need for an ecosystems and collaborations to manage the (Gen) AI wave and leverage the new technology. One announcement that caught the attention at MWC24 was Deutsche Telekom, e& Group, Singtel, SoftBank and SK Telekom introducing their joint venture company to develop LLMs. In line with this, Telenor presented its partnership with NVIDIA – joining forces to bring AI across the Nordic region. This new, pragmatic approach to partnerships hope to accelerate development, enhance scalability and flexibility, as well as foster a more inclusive ecosystem.
During MWC23, GSMA announced the launch of Open Gateway. Today, 47 mobile operator groups, representing 239 mobile networks and 65% of connections around the world, have signed up, including Ericsson, Nokia, Deutsche Telekom and AWS. The collaborative initiative illustrates the sector’s move toward openness and shared innovation to foster growth and adapt to new technological paradigms.However, many still call for a mature business case as questions remain on how to drive revenues.
